Geriatrics is a medical field that specializes in diseases of the elderly. It belongs to the internal medicine, general medicine, neurology and psychiatry, and may be practiced after further training.


People from an age of 80 onward are referred to as geriatrics patients due to their increased vulnerability.

Typical geriatric diseases include: diabetes mellitus, heart attack, stroke, Parkinson's disease, cataracts, osteoporosis, arthritis, dementia, senile depression, cancer and atrial fibrillation.
