Medical specialty: Endocrinology

Endocrinology belongs to the medical field of internal medicine, and deals with the human hormones and hormonal signal transduction. Endocrinology concentrates on genetic, biochemical, cybernetic and molecular biological transmission of hormones as well as diseases that are caused by hormonal imbalances.

Although endocrinology belongs to the field of internal medicine, it is interdisciplinary connected to gynecology, urology, pediatrics, neurology, psychiatry, nuclear medicine, surgery and intensive care.

Among the most common hormonal diseases are diabetes mellitus, thyroid diseases, endocrine hypertension, growth disorders, disorders of sexual hormones, diseases of the kidney and disturbances of metabolism.

In Germany, Switzerland and Austria, there are own centers for endocrinology that specialize in metabolic and endocrine disorders.
